New Alternative Meat Company from California Creates Meat from Air

The plant-based meat market continues to expand. Air Meat is a new meat alternative from Berkeley, California that uses fermentation technology.

Dr. Lisa Dyson is the founder and CEO of Air Meat and uses NASA-inspired technology to transform CO2 from the air to make an edible protein, Air Meat. According to Food Dive, the company raised $32 million in early 2021 to push the company forward. The process uses very few resources, which makes it beneficial for the planet.

“With this funding, we will be able to accelerate our work towards providing innovative, environmentally friendly, highly nutritious alternatives that will play an important role in meeting the growing global demand for alternatives to animal protein,” Dyson said in an emailed press release to Food Dive. “We are commercializing a novel technology platform that is capable of scaling to large-scale production to help feed the world’s 10 billion people by the year 2050, in the most sustainable approach available today.”

The company will use the money to invest in additional research and development as it refines the different styles of plant-based meats it could offer. According to Dyson, the product is about 80 percent protein, a big nutritional indicator.
